Try Twine!

Online, Twine is used for “organizing, finding, and sharing information. Twine can be used for your personal interests and projects, or with groups and teams. Creating a Twine takes just a few seconds. Then you can invite others to join.”

Family Stories was started on Twine with 25 links to sites that show examples, lesson guides, or tools for the creation of online collaborative projects such as timelines, mapping, oral histories and digital slideshows or scrapbooks.

As a nod to African American History and Black History Month [InfoPlease: BHM], Family Stories starts by being “seeded” with examples of special projects that families, communities and educational institutions have developed.

A second Twines that I’ve started is Brain Matters: Research Implications for the Education and Training of Teens.

You are invited to join in to build these Twine collections, to locate other interests or to create your own Twines!

It is rare that a copyright notice generates excitement, but the one posted at White House Web Site did just that with its mention of Creative Commons.

Teen Bloggers

January 21st, 2009 Tagged , , , , , , , , , ,

Click through to enjoy an engaging teen perspective: From the Unquiet Librarian via Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA): Best of 2008: A Teen Perspective January 19, 2009

Locating viable teen bloggers for an “official” high school audience is like chasing a moving target. After all, teens soon grow into adulthood. A great teen writer who meets adult sensibilities and passes school filters may take a sudden jag into spicy language or controversial topics not deemed suitable for work (NSF) or school and become lost from view. These days, teens usually text to networks or microblogs instead of writing a blog post.

The thoughts and opinions of teen writers as showcased in brief messages may be appreciated by hundreds of “friends” on a social network yet, usually, do not transfer well into more traditional blog posts or formats. Finding a talented teen blogger who can balance and blend different styles of writing with appeal to various audiences is just as rare as locating a talented adult blogger who attracts teen and adult fans.
